    Dune (1984) – The Alternative Edition v2 (2009)

    Brief Synopsis:
    Director David Lynch’s strange and visionary sci-fi epic is given a new lease of life with this unique fan-edit by Spicediver. Dune The Alternative Edition is a painstakingly created new cut that draws on the Theatrical Version (1984), the Extended Version (1988), various deleted scenes, and two versions of the original soundtrack album. Presented in 2.35 anamorphic widescreen with Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo sound.
    The Revised Version 2 replaces V1 and features additional changes and technical improvements.


    Intention:
    Both of the officially released versions of David Lynch’s visually amazing ‘Dune’ have substantial problems. The Theatrical Version was gutted to the point of incomprehension by executive producer Dino De Laurentiis in his quest to make it a two hour movie instead of three. The easier-to-follow Extended Version assembled for cable TV, with much restored footage, was so incompetently put together by Universal’s MCA TV division that Lynch ordered his name removed from the writing and directing credits.

    Broadly, my intention with the Alternative Edition is to improve storytelling and flow by preserving the best elements from both official versions of the film while also integrating some newly available deleted scenes.

    The Alternative Edition does not claim to be a director’s cut. It is also based more on the Extended Version of Dune than several other fanedits doing the rounds. In this and many other respects the Alternative Edition is a significantly different take on the film. I have used Herbert’s novel and the 6th and 7th drafts of Lynch’s original script as a guide but have also taken my own liberties with the material.

                  Impossibile, a me succede la stessa cosa e sto usando Windows 8, cioe` le piu` sofisticate elaborazioni della cibernetica. (cit) Ficoso

                    Invece dal primo link funziona e lo sto scaricando: FLV di 659 MB, 25 minuti rimasti.
                    Non so cosa sto scaricando, pero`. A bocca storta

                          Tutta l'impostazione: mi era sembrato un universo triste e stantio. I piloti drogati, i fazenderi del futuro... roba cosi`, l'atmosfera, ecco. Come se fosse troppo storica, e io considero sempre la storia una serie di stronzate tristi. Ho un punto di vista infantile su queste cose, ma non ne ho trovato uno migliore.

                              per me e' l'opposto invece, ho letto i primi due come introduzione a quel mondo e crescendo che porta alla conclusione di quel mondo, spiegandotela nei dettgli ed eviscerndone le ragioni passo passo e buttndoci in mezzo un po di critica scifi, il dio-imperatore poi lo ho letto come il sogno bagnato, ed anche piuttosto puerile, di herbert che cerca di relazionarsi al mondo, al tempo, all'universo ed alla vita dal punto di vista individuale che piu individuale non si puo, cioe' per me serve a quello tutta la storia di dune, a creare il punto di vista individuale per eccellenza, il dio-imperatore, che possiede appunto una prospettiva su tutto, come noi umani invece non abbiamo ma quasi vorremmo, e che cosa voglia dire e che cos'e' cio di cui siamo alla ricerca nel cercare ciascuno nel nostro piccolo di diventre dei-imperatori.

                              edit: cmq il film ed il libro sono molto diversi, e mi sono piaciuti per ragioni diverse, questo fanedit secondo me riesce nell'intenzione che aveva, e secondo me appunto film e libri di dune sono diversi.
                              btw i libri di dune scritti dal figlio e dagli altri li considero solo pulp fantscientifico.

                                  si esatto, i primi due di Herbert sono space opera diciamo, il terzo e' tutta un altra cosa, secondo me e' quello che ho scritto, cioe' i primi due parlano dei gruppi, degli Uomini, plurale, mentre il terzo prende il punto di vista di un singolo personaggio, che secondo me e' proprio Herbert/il suo Dio-Imperatore interiore, e IMO serve a fare quello che ho scritto sopra.
                                  Ci sono dei passaggi molto belli, ad esempio ricordo tutto un ragionamento del dio-imperatore che ha dentro di se la memoria di tutto il suo lignaggio, dai genitori alle forme di vita primordiali, e come lui usi questa sua prospettiva "totale" per leggere le vite degli umani che li stanno intorno carpendone aspetti del tutto preclusi a quegli stessi umani, che loro non possono nemmeno lontanmente avvicinare ma che tuttavia sono determinanti nelle loro vite.
                                  Con questo non voglio dire che sia perfettamente riuscito come libro, anzi, pero' lo ho apprezzato comunque, anche, o soprattutto, come conclusione dei primi due.

                                    Ma dove sei arrivato con la serie? Perche' tu continui a parlare del terzo, che mi pare ancora non fosse tanto male, mentre io mi riferisco soprattutto al 5 ~ 6 (il 6 per quanto mi riguarda e` l'ultimo).

                                      spe si mi sono sbagliato in effetti, herbert ha scritto anche i due dopo god emperor of dune, e god emperor of dune e' in effetti il quarto, questo e' il problema nell'avere dei libri solo sull'ebook reader, quelli dopo god emperor of dune, heretics e chapterhouse of dune, perdono di brutto, e non li ha scritti il figlio.

                                        chapterhouse: dune e` quello che mi fece pensare "questa roba e` merda, meno male che e` l'ultimo" (a suo tempo i libri del figlio non esistevano).

                                    A 'sto punto mi sembra di poter riassumere il perche` Dune non mi sia mai piaciuto nell'incompatibilita` delle aspettative sul futuro e sulla vita tra me ed Herbert. Forse.
