A firefighter from Hamburg who wants to remain anonymous claims to have visited the refugee center in Kiwittsmoor 31 times during a period of 88 days - for nothing. Some of his colleagues are losing their motivation because of the false alarms. However, the Hamburg's Fire Department denies this.
"It's unbearable": the firefighters visited the refugee center in Kiwittsmoor 31 times in 88 days - every single time a false alarm. This is claimed by one of the volunteers working for the Fire Department of Hamburg who desires to remain anonymous.
"The alarms go off when smoke reaches the corridors. Every one knows that we are going there once again for nothing", says the volunteer to the newspaper "Morgenpost". The problem is that the refugees are not acquainted with the house rules.
That's why there are so many operations, explains the firefighter. "This is totally abnormal. Our motivation is extremely damaged due to this. Meanwhile, my colleagues and I are refusing to go there".
FOCUS Online asked the press office of the Fire Department of Hamburg. Torsten Wesseley rebuts the behavior of the volunteers. "This report by the Morgenpost was not agreed with us. We are checking the numbers, to see whether this is true".
"We go there - even for the 100th time"
Even if the numbers are correct, the position of the anonymous fire fighter is not the right one. "We have a different opinion. If an alarms goes off, we drive to the place - even after the 100th false alarm", says Wesseley.
The anonymous fire fighter explained, that each time an alarm is activated, an operative of 10 volunteer fire fighters and 6 police officers is triggered. This was confirmed by Wesseley, who added that one never knows the scale of the situation.
